The vision
Farming the whole system, not just the crop.
KOA—Kauaʻi Organic Agroecosystems—is a model ecological farm built on a simple, old idea: that a piece of land thrives when every part of it is in relationship with every other part. Water feeds the kalo; the kalo feeds the people; the buffalo build the soil; the soil feeds the trees.
Set on roughly twenty-five acres of leased Grove Farm land in the Līhuʻe region of Kauaʻi, the farm is a working example of regenerative agriculture rooted in the Hawaiian ahupuaʻa—the traditional practice of caring for the land in one continuous flow from the mountains to the sea.
